Woman who died after becoming trapped under reversing car is named

A woman who died when she became trapped under a reversing car in Halifax has been named.

Fatima Begum, 86, from Halifax, was killed when the driver of a Volvo XC90 reversed along Burlington Street and collided with the pensioner, who was on foot.

She became trapped underneath the vehicle, suffering serious injures and was later pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police are still investigating the incident, which happened on November 4 at around 2.54pm, and are urging a woman who was near the scene at the time to come forward.

The possible witness is described as an Asian female, of slim build, who was dressed in a beige coloured dress and was wearing a matching beige head dress.

Sergeant Paul Lightowler of the Major Collision Enquiry Team, said: “We are continuing to investigate this collision which has tragically resulted in Fatima’s death and are appealing for witnesses.

“I am particularly keen to speak with an Asian woman captured on CCTV from nearby who we think may have seen the collision.

“I would ask this lady or anyone who has information or dashcam footage to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 quoting log number 972 of 4 November.”
