Tragedy as woman dies after getting trapped under reversing car

Police are appealing for witnesses after an 86-year-old woman died after she was hit by a car in Halifax.

Emergency service were called at 2.54pm yesterday (November 4) to reports of a crash between a car and a pedestrian on Burlington Street.

The car involved, a Volvo XC90, was reversing on the road before the it hit the female pedestrian who then became trapped underneath the vehicle.

She suffered serious injuries and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

West Yorkshire Police say enquiries to establish the circumstances are still ongoing.

In a statement, the force said: “Police are appealing for any witnesses to the collision or saw the vehicle and driver prior to the collision.

“Anyone with any information is asked to contact the Major Collision Enquiry Team via 101 or use the live chat facility quoting log number 972 of 4 November.”
