If you don’t visit Jitterbug Jean for its fabulous vintage clothes and accessories, visit it to cheer yourself up, because this colourful, quirky place really is a terrific tonic! Seriously though, owner Sharon has created somewhere very special here: a fun and friendly boutique packed with stylish retro fashions and gorgeous gifts for every budget.
A Halifax local, Sharon opened the business of her dreams in 2017, naming her new shop after the mother-in-law she never got to meet. Passionate about vintage styles, Sharon’s collections today span many of the must-have brands when it comes to clothing inspired by the 1950s and other classic eras. Look out for irresistible lines from Hell Bunny, plus UK-made dresses from small-scale London manufacturer, Lady Vintage London. If it’s something a little darker or more gothic you’re after, Banned Apparel should fit the bill. Meanwhile, Jitterbug is one of the few ‘bricks and mortar’ shops where you can try on and buy items from coveted online brand, Collectif.
In a shop this dedicated to fifties fashion you’d expect a bit of hosiery. At Jitterbug you can buy amazing products from Pamela Mann, including quirky tights with designs ranging from bold and bright check through to dinosaurs and cats. Meanwhile, bags, purses and other essentials come from House of Disaster, with Soake supplying fun umbrellas decorated with everything from rainbows to pagodas. Looking for a little gift or a treat on a tight budget? Don’t worry, all the jewellery here is under a tenner, of you can choose a scarf from £8 or hairclips for just a pound! Even the most expensive dresses top out at around £70, with most costing around half that.
The shop is open 7 days of the week, 10 – 5 Monday to Saturday and 11 – 4 on Sundays. Don’t forget to follow Sharon’s busy social media for updates about all her latest products: Jitterbug Jean on Facebook and for Instagram @jitterbugjean13.
