18 Oct Second In Bloom award recognises tourism in Halifax
Halifax has been awarded a second coveted title as part of the annual Yorkshire In Bloom competition. Along with a Silver Gilt award announced recently, Discover Halifax has also earned a prestigious discretionary award for Supporting Tourism, putting it ahead of every other Yorkshire town in the category.
Halifax’s In Bloom entry was organised by Discover Halifax; the non-profitmaking initiative set up to protect the local economy by supporting town centre businesses. Since its inception six years ago, Discover Halifax has invested heavily in projects and campaigns designed to help boost the town’s visitor economy and bring money into Halifax. These have included visual improvements like cleaning up graffiti and providing floral displays, together with the delivery of major public events like the town’s Heritage Festival and Christmas celebrations. Project Manager, Chloe McNeill, explained,
“Earning a Silver Gilt was fantastic but we’re even more thrilled about being recognised for Supporting Tourism, not least because this second award is at the judges’ discretion. Working closely with our partners, we put massive resources into helping people enjoy our town centre while at the same time supporting local traders’ efforts to make the most of this tourism. We do it by striving to keep Halifax smart, safe and accessible, as well as making it sure it offers an exciting, varied and affordable visitor experience. This latest award proves we’re getting it right!”
