Mum’s warning after men try to lure her son and nephew into car

A Halifax mum has warned residents to be cautious after a group of men tried to lure her son and nephew into a car on Sunday evening.

Toni Griffiths is warning people to be ‘extra careful’ after the two boys were walking through Grove Estate, Ovenden, in Halifax, when a black car pulled up next to them with two or three men inside.

The boys said that one man got out of the passenger door with a can of beer in his hand and offered the boys a lift, telling them it was a taxi.

Luckily, the boys noticed that the taxi had no stickers or anything else to prove it was legitimate, so knew it wasn’t true.

Ms Griffiths said it was lucky the boys are ‘very street smart.’

The two boys managed to quickly walk away to a family member’s house and to safety.

Ms Griffiths, a healthcare assistant, then posted about the incident on Facebook groups, to raise awareness of the issue because “other kids might not be so lucky”.

She said: “I made a few public posts to make others aware, to warn their children to be careful and cautious.”

Ms Griffiths reported the incident to the police, but so far she has not heard anything back.
