23 Jun Lifesaving Access Across Halifax
A useful new town-centre map shows the up-to-date locations of lifesaving, publicly accessible, heart defibrillators across Halifax. The map will help members of the public find their nearest defibrillator in an emergency, and could play a crucial role in saving the lives of people who collapse because of heart attacks or other cardiac problems.
The defibrillators in Halifax cost around £1,000 each and are regularly checked by BID’s patrolling Ambassadors. So far, they’ve been called into use over 100 times since they were installed around the town, almost certainly saving a number of people’s lives. The beauty of these public devices is that users don’t need any training to operate them. Instead, if someone witness a collapse, they simply call 999 and will be directed to the nearest device, given the code to unlock it, and then talked though how to use the defibrillator by an expert.
