A family member has paid tribute to “full of joy” Josh Highley who sadly died after being hit by a bus.
On June 3, the 20-year-old, who was born in Calderdale Royal Infirmary, was walking in Burnley Road and was hit by a bus. He sustained serious injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by West Yorkshire Police.
West Yorkshire Police confirmed a bus driver had been arrested on suspicion of driving over the prescribed limit (drugs). An inquest into his death was opened in Bradford on Friday June 10 by assistant coroner Angela Brocklehurst.
The inquest heard brief details of what happened from coroner’s officer Laura Sinfield who confirmed that Josh was 20 years old and was born in Halifax in September 2001. Josh had been identified by his girlfriend, Cody McLeod.
Since his passing, a great number of tributes have rolled in for the Halifax man who was said to be “well known” in the town, his mum said. Josh’s mum Christina Jones, a mum-of-two who lives in Lee Mount was too upset to speak.
She did say he would be much missed and she is being supported by a police liaison officer at this time. Another family member, Liam Highley said: “He grew up a happy lad full of life and joy. He would love to joke around and dance.
“He loved his clothes and trainers. The party life he loved and dancing the night away.
“Josh loved having a good old sing-along in the car. When he wasn’t partying, he would talk and make plans about what he wanted to do in his life. We will all miss his laughs. His cries. His banter.”
Sharing details about his loved one, Liam added that Josh was born on September 18, 2001, weighing 5lb and 10oz. “He was the life ag down upon us, telling us to have fun and enjoy ourselves”, Liam added.
One friend wrote on his Facebook page: “RIP, mate. no one deserves to go so young. Thoughts go out to you and your family.” Another friend said: “We love and miss you Josh, thinking back to more innocent days when we were all kids. Simpler times.” Another added: “I am gutted, heartbroken. So going to miss you lad x.”
A spokesman for West Yorkshire Police previously said: “Police are appealing for witnesses after a fatal road traffic collision in Sowerby Bridge.
