There is exciting news coming for fans of Happy Valley with a third series of the Yorkshire TV drama on its way.
Happy Valley follows Sergeant Catherine Cawood, played by Sarah Lancashire, who leads a police team in Calderdale. There have been two series of the BBC programme with it last being on our screens in 2016.
Happy Valley comes from the prolific Sally Wainwright who is also famous for Last Tango in Halifax and Gentleman Jack. Sally, who was awarded in an OBE in the Queen’s Birthday Honours, said: “I’m writing Happy Valley three now, that is the next thing on the list.
“I’ve only just started, I’m getting all the research together but we have got some good storylines in mind.”

Focusing on Happy Valley means Sally will not be in the director’s chair when Gentleman Jack returns.
Sally explained: “I’m not directing Gentleman Jack this time which I’m very sad about but I made that choice because I wanted to get on with Happy Valley three and I hope I will be directing that but we will see, it’s just very time consuming.
“All the time I’m directing I’m not writing so it’s a big decision.”
We’ll bring you more news on the return of Happy Valley when we get it.
