Gentleman Jack red carpet at Halifax Piece Hall in pictures as fans mob Suranne Jones and cast

Stars of the hit period drama charting the life of Anne Lister returned to Halifax for the series 2 premiere on Tuesday evening.

Fans of the historical BBC drama Gentleman Jack were out in force on Tuesday evening as they flocked to The Piece Hall in Halifax, where the premiere for the second series was underway.

Alongside stars such as Suranne Jones, Gemma Whelan and Sally Wainwright, a few other notable attendees such as Coronation Street’s Jennie McAlpine and Paralympian Hannah Cockroft were also in attendance.

The show marks a welcome return to Yorkshire after a long three year wait, with the second exciting instalment of the drama continuing to chart the life of Anne Lister, a pioneering diarist often described as the ‘first modern lesbian’.

Describing the experience of returning for a second series, Suranne Jones said “The first time, I was getting in, feeling my way through the landscape, and the second time it was like coming home. So when I came last night, it just reminds me how beautiful Yorkshire is – and Sally made that part of the show. So Shibden and Yorkshire are almost like a character, like another character which is gorgeous!””

Although the show doesn’t officially return to our screens until April 10, a handful of lucky viewers were able to bag themselves a sneak peak of episode one at tonight’s premiere.
