Driver smashes into wall trying to escape police in Todmorden

A driver is seriously injured in hospital after crashing into a wall while trying to escape from police on Halifax Road, Todmorden.

Officers attempted to stop a Citroen Xsara Picasso at 11.08pm but it sped away, before colliding with a stone wall close to the junction of Hallroyd Road.

The driver sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital.

The passengers of the Citroen sustained minor injuries and were treated at the scene.

Police closed Haliax Road shortly after the accident and it remained shut until around 11am today.

Buses and cars were diverted around the closure, which sat on the main road between Todmorden and Hebden Bridge, for much of this morning.
