‘Billy’ drugs line boss who ran operation with more than 30 ‘staff’ and shattered lives

In total, West Yorkshire Police arrested 36 people thought to be in connection with the ‘callous’ drug line

A Halifax man who was “at the helm” of a drugs supply enterprise – which was disrupted by a major police operation – has been jailed for more than 11 years.

Uzain Mohammed, 28, was one of seven people to have been jailed for over 40 years combined for their involvement in drug supply in Halifax. A large-scale investigation was launched in November 2023, aimed at dismantling drug lines operating in the town centre and its surrounding areas.

Today, Mohammed was described as “being at the helm” of the organisation, as he received his sentence along with seven others. Bradford Crown Court heard how Judge Ahmed Nadim was satisfied with the evidence that Mohammed, 28, had “devised and executed” the criminal enterprise, and he was at the helm of the “Billy” drugs line.

Mohammed’s offending came to light back in 2023/24 following two police operations. The court heard how the drugs enterprise involved the distribution of bulk adverts for heroin and cocaine and the use of forwarding phone numbers to try to avoid detection.

Mohammed, for Clay Pits Lane, admitted four charges relating to two conspiracies involving the supply of heroin and cocaine.

Judge Nadim told all the defendants: “Those who engage in the supply of Class A drugs often do so out of greed and with callous disregard for the consequences. This offending feeds existing addictions and creates new addicts. It shatters individual lives, breaks families and corrodes communities by fuelling acquisitive crime, fear and disorder.

“The ripple effects are profound. The emergency services and the NHS bear a heavy and continuing burden in treating the health consequences of drugs misuse.

“Class A drugs supply is an enterprise that profits from human misery, inflicts enduring social harm and leaves a trail of damage that this court must mark with confine punishment.”

As a result, Uzain Mohammed, aged 27, of Clay Pitts Lane, Halifax, was sentenced to 11 years and eight months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A.

In total, 36 people were arrested as part of the investigation and 27 of those charged with a total of over 110 offences including supply of Class A and conspiracy to supply Class A drugs.

In a two-day sentencing which concluded today, Friday 9 January, the following defendants – alongside Mohammed – were sentenced after entering guilty pleas in September 2025.

  • Amaan Ifraz, aged 23, of Athol Close, Halifax sentenced to seven years and two months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A.
  • Michael Kilner, aged 29, of no fixed abode, sentenced to two years and three months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A.
  • Scott Shaw, aged 48, of Houghton Towers, Halifax, sentenced to seven years and eight months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A and additional driving offences.
  • Josef Pihik, aged 49, of no fixed abode, sentenced to four years and eight months for conspiracy to supply Class A and additional offences including drug-driving.
  • Rebecca Henderson, aged 46, of Unity Terrace, Halifax, was given a three-year community order.

Uzain Mohammed was also sentenced as part of a second investigation, which began after officers stopped a vehicle in the Pellon area in September 2023.

Following the second investigation, Mohammed, alongside Zaeem Tufeeque, aged 29 of Norfolk Place, Halifax, and Safraz Riaz, formerly of Essex Street, Halifax, were charged with offences in April 2024.

  • Tufeeque was sentenced to two years and three months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A.
  • Riaz was sentenced to a total of five years and eight months in prison for conspiracy to supply Class A and a number of separate additional offences, including burglary, ABH and a public order offence. Riaz also received a 10-year restraining order.
