Smash-hit Channel 4 comedy-drama series Ackley Bridge will be returning to our screens once again for a fifth installment.
The award-winning Yorkshire show, first commissioned in 2017, is back with even more high-jinx plans, scams and maniac adventures behind the school gates as well as on the estate.
Rapper and actor Ashley Walters, known for his starring role as Ricky in 2004 drama hit Bullet Boy and lead role as Dushane in crime drama series Top Boy, will be making his directing debut for the upcoming series.
The show will pick up where it left off last year with the iconic trio, Johnny, Kayla and Fizza as they attempt to navigate their way through the second half of the school year.
Also on the agenda for the forthcoming series are numerous life complications for Kayla’s Queen Bee of an older sister, Marina , as well as her younger brother Kyle who is the newest pupil to attend Ackley Bridge College and also happens to be fresh out of juvenile prison.
With a drama-fuelled year behind them, full to the brim with love triangles, compulsive liars, catfishing and an unforgettable (albeit unsuccessful) gypsy wedding, what could possibly go wrong this semester?
It’s not over until the last school bell rings!
It also appears as though Ackley’s adults are no more in control than the students however, as headteacher Martin finds his professional under the spotlight as Ken does what he does best as a raging pain in the proverbial.
Life for Martin becomes stickier still when Asma, the college’s new hotshot teacher, starts ruffling some feathers on her first day on the job.
Sunetra Sarker, known for her recent roles in Informer’and ‘he Bay, will also be reprising her role as Kaneez, the beating heart of the school who just so happens to be faced with her biggest challenge yet, in the form of new pupil and utter delinquent, Kyle.
Also rejoining the cast will be Charlie Hardwick, who puts most of her efforts to impressing Ken, which incidentally leads to a huge career change.
Ackley Bridge series five, which is currently being filmed in Halifax, will premiere on Channel 4 in the new year.
