5-year-old seriously injured in car driven by suspected drink driver

A five-year-old girl was rushed to hospital with serious injuries following a three-car smash in Halifax.

West Yorkshire Police were called to the incident, on Brackenbed Lane, at 7pm on Sunday where they found a silver BMW, black Ford Mondeo and silver Seat Leon had all collided.

The injured child, who was a passenger in the silver BMW, was being driven by a suspected drink-driver.

The 29-year-old male at the wheel of the BMW was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving and driving over the prescribed limit of alcohol. He remains in police custody.

Police are now appealing for witnesses of the crash, or anyone with dash cam footage, to come forward.

Officers are also investigating the BMW’s movements prior to the collision and have asked anyone with information to reach out.

It’s believed the car was parked in Halifax town centre shortly before the incident.

Anyone with information should contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101, quoting log 13200473119.
